Why is there a growing popularity about herbal treatments? As herbal treatments have been about for so long, and in so many cultures, there are many methods that they are said to work.
There are many reasons lie in the mystical thinking about traditional cultures. Some believe the appearance of the plant gives a sign of what it can be employed to treat ; this physical similarity between the plant and the body part to be cured is often known as the “‘Doctrine of Signatures” ; a heart formed plant would be used to treat heart issues, for instance.
Herbal medicine are classified into three:
- The Western herbal tradition based on Greek, Roman and medieval sources;
- The Ayurvedic tradition of India;
- Chinese herbal medicine.
From the middle ages on, many practitioners have attempted to classify herbal treatments by observation of their effects.This is closer to the modern scientific approach of gathering proof. Cures are produced by either taking the entire plant, or simply the part of the plant needed, and frequently mixing it with other plants.
